I recently spent 15 days in Montana with some friends. Our stay at the Absaroka Cabins stands out as the highlight of my time there. The Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Area is one of the true crown jewels of the entire Wilderness Preservation system. Together, the Absaroka and Beartooth mountain ranges make up a sublime. Emigrant Peak sits at 10,′ at the western edge of the Absaroka Range/Western Beartooths in Montana.
The summit of Emigrant sits roughly ′ higher than the Yellowstone River as it flows north out of Yellowstone National Park in the Paradise Valley. Over the Absaroka Range glaciers were forced down into the Lamar and Yellowstone Valleys, thence westward over the top of Mount Everts to the Mammoth Hot Springs Basin.
